Messaging allows you to send SMS messages from within the portal to your fleet vehicles. You can send messages to vehicles directly from the Vehicle Card in the Portal. Messages can be sent to any vehicle with a valid phone/SMS number. You can also review received messages from the Vehicle Card.
You must have the Messaging permission enabled in the User Access List and SMS Messaging enabled in the Menu Access List.
Sending Messages
To send a message from the Vehicle Card, the applicable vehicle must have valid vehicle contact information associated with the vehicle.
How to send a message:
- From the Vehicle Card, click the ellipsis icon (
). - Click Send Message.
- Enter your message and click Send.
A menu appears.
The Messaging page appears. You can view all messages sent to/received from this vehicle contact from this page. All messages display time and date stamps.
You can adjust the size of the text field by clicking on the bottom left-hand corner of the box and dragging down to expand.
Adding or Editing Vehicle Contact Information
Vehicle contact information can be added and/or edited directly from the Vehicle Card in two ways: using the Messaging feature or from the Admin tab.
Add/Edit Via Messaging Feature
Add/Edit Contact Info – Messaging Feature:
- From the Vehicle Card, click the ellipsis icon (
). - Click Send Message.
- Click Edit Vehicle Contact Info.
- Scroll down to the Contact Info section.
- Enter or edit Phone and/or Email information and use the checkboxes to select an Alert Preference (Email or SMS).
- Click Save.
A menu appears.
The Messaging page appears.
A success message appears stating “The vehicle “XX” has been updated.”
Add/Edit Via Admin Tab
To view/edit the Admin tab, you must have the Vehicle Admin permission enabled in the User Access List and Manage Vehicles permission enabled in the Menu Access List.
Add/Edit Contact Info – Admin Tab:
- From the Vehicle Card, click the Admin tab.
- Click Edit.
- Scroll down to the Contact Info section.
- Enter or edit Phone and/or Email information and use the checkboxes to select an Alert Preference (Email or SMS).
- Click Save.
A success message appears stating “The vehicle “XX” has been updated.”
Basic Tier Instructions
If you are a customer on the Basic tier, please use the instructions provided below. Click on the title to expand the window to view.
The portal allows you to send and receive messages to / from a vehicle / driver via SMS. Messages sent via email from the portal are handled by your mail client. Default vehicle contact info can be set by editing vehicle information.
Send an SMS Message
SMS messages sent from the portal are delivered to a driver’s mobile device via 477-477 (GPSGPS). Any messages sent from a driver are displayed in message history on the vehicle’s Mobile Communications tab.
To send an SMS message to a vehicle/driver:
- From the map, Search Results tab, or Vehicles tab, click the vehicle you want message.
- Click Message.
- Click Send Message.
- Choose a phone number to use for the message.
If no number is shown, click to add/edit vehicle contact info. You may need to refresh the browser window to see updated contact info from the Send Message tab.
- Enter a message in the Message box (e.g., Can you stop by Yard B on your way back to the Warehouse?).
- When finished with the message, click Send Message.
The message will be delivered to the driver’s mobile device from the number 477-477 (GPSGPS). If the driver replies to a message, an automated message will be sent to the driver to indicate that the reply was sent. You can view all driver-initiated communication from the Mobile Communications tab.

Send an Email Message
Email messages sent from the portal are handled by your mail client. Any email messages sent from a driver are not viewable on the vehicle’s Mobile Communications tab.
To send an email to a vehicle/driver:
- From the map, Search Results tab, or Vehicles tab, click the vehicle you want message.
- Click Message.
- Click Send Message.
- Choose an email address to use for the message.
If no email address is shown, click to add/edit vehicle contact info. You may need to refresh the browser window to see updated contact info from the Send Message tab.
- Enter a message in the Message box (e.g., Can you stop by Yard B on your way back to the Warehouse?).
- When finished with the message, click Send Message.
Your default mail client opens with a draft of the message. From this point on, this communication thread will be handled by your and the driver’s mail client. Messages sent via email are not viewable from within message history of the portal.
