Using the Vehicle Card

When you click on a vehicle/driver (if assigned) from the map or use the Search Field to locate a vehicle, the Vehicle Card for the selected vehicle/driver displays, which shows you the Vehicle ID or name, the driver (if associated/assigned), address of last reported location, details (e.g., vehicle, status, driver, landmark, odometer, and more), and street view of last reported location. Additionally, you can create a landmark or send a dispatch directly from the card.

For the following instructional materials, we will review the Vehicle Card from the top down.

Using the Asset Header

Using the ellipses button from the Asset Header, you can copy the last reported location or open Google Maps in a separate browser tab to view the location.

How to copy the last reported location:

  1. From the Vehicle Card, click on the ellipses button ().
  2. A pop-up window appears.

  3. Click Copy Location.
  4. The location is copied to your system’s clipboard. Use may paste this location in within the Portal or externally (e.g., separate browser tab, etc.).

How to view the location in Google Maps:

  1. From the Vehicle Card, click on the ellipses button ().
  2. A pop-up window appears.

  3. Click Open in Google Maps.
  4. A separate browser tab opens displaying the location in Google Maps.

Using the Create Landmark and Send Dispatch Features

Using the Create Landmark and Send Dispatch buttons, you can create a landmark centered over the last reported location or send a dispatch to selected vehicles/drivers.

Creating a Landmark

How to create a landmark:

  1. From the Vehicle Card, click Create Landmark.
  2. The Create Landmark window appears.

  3. In the Landmark Name text field, enter a name for the landmark.
  4. Select a color for the landmark.
  5. Entering a name and selecting a color for the landmark are required steps in order for the Create button to be enabled.

  6. Click Create.
  7. The Landmark is created and the corresponding Landmark Card appears on the right-hand side of the screen.

Landmarks created from the Vehicle Card have a default radius of 750 ft.

Sending a Dispatch

A dispatch to a landmark (previously created), vehicle, or address can be sent to selected recipients (vehicle ID or driver name, if associated).

How to send a dispatch:

  1. From the Vehicle Card, click Send Dispatch.

  2. The Send Dispatch window appears.

  3. In the “Location to send:” text field, enter a landmark, vehicle ID, or address that you would like to dispatch a vehicle/driver to.
  4. Use the Recipient Selector (drop-down window under “Send this location to the following recipient(s):”), to select the driver(s) and/or vehicle(s) to receive the dispatch.
  5. Selected recipients appear in pill labels toward the bottom of the Send Dispatch window.

  6. Click Send Dispatch.
  7. A message regarding the transmission status of your dispatch appears next to the Vehicle ID section of the Vehicle Card.

    If the transmission failed, you are notified of this failure so that you may attempt the dispatch again.

Viewing Hierarchy (Enterprise only)/Vehicle Group Membership:

If the vehicle and/or driver is a member of a Hierarchy (Enterprise customers only) or Vehicle Group, the membership status is displayed under the Hierarchy Membership section and Vehicle Group Membership section for quick reference.

Hierarchy tree/branch membership is shown via breadcrumbs; whereas, vehicle group membership is shown via list.

Using the Vehicle Details

This section of the Vehicle Card gives you at-a-glance information about the vehicle including:

  • Vehicle
  • Status
  • Driver (if assigned)
  • Landmark (if applicable)
  • Odometer
  • Ignition
  • Last Reported
  • Attributes (if applicable)

Assigning, Changing, or Removing a Driver

You can assign, change, or remove an assigned driver to a vehicle from the Details section of the Vehicle Card.

How to assign a driver:

  1. From the Details section of the Vehicle Card, click Assign Driver.
  2. The Assign Driver pop-up appears.

  3. Use the Searchable Select field by typing a driver’s name in the field or use drop-down field to scroll down and click on a driver.
  4. You cannot create a driver within this Searchable Select field. Drivers must be created prior to using the field to appear in the available list of drivers. See Adding a Driver for step-by-step instructions.

  5. Click Assign.
  6. The driver is assigned to the vehicle.

How to change a driver:

  1. From the Details section of the Vehicle Card, click Change.
  2. The Assign Driver pop-up appears.

  3. Use the Searchable Select field by typing a driver’s name in the field or use drop-down field to scroll down and click on a driver.
  4. You cannot create a driver within this Searchable Select field. Drivers must be created prior to using the field to appear in the available list of drivers. See Adding a Driver for step-by-step instructions.

  5. Click Assign.
  6. A pop-up asks you: “Are you sure you want to re-assign this vehicle’s driver?”

  7. Click Yes, Assign to proceed with the assignment change.
  8. You may cancel the assignment change by clicking No, Cancel.

    The driver assigned to the vehicle is changed.

How to remove an assigned driver:

  1. From the Details section of the Vehicle Card, click the Delete/Remove button (X) next to the current assigned driver’s name.
  2. The assigned driver is removed from the vehicle.

Viewing the Most Recent Trip Component

The Most Recent Trip Component provides you with the trip start (date and time), duration, average speed, distance traveled and a 2D-map view of the vehicle’s most recent trip.

Using the Street View

You can use the Street View to view the vehicle’s location on the map for street-level imagery.

How to use the Street View:

  1. From the Street View section of the Vehicle Card, click on the Expand button ().
  2. The Street View section expands to show the street view of the vehicle’s location.

    If Street View is unavailable for the location, a message is displayed stating: “Currently unavailable for this location”.

  3. To interact with the Street View, click on the screen to move the view up/down the street. To move the view, click and drag on the Street View screen. To zoom in or out, use the trackpad or trackball on your mouse.
  4. To expand the Street View to Full Screen, click the Toggle fullscreen view button (). To exit Full Screen view, press the Esc button on your keyboard or click the Exit full screen view ().
  5. To collapse the view, click the Collapse button.

Using the Nearby Assets List

A list of nearby assets closest to the selected vehicle displays and allows you to click on the Vehicle ID of any of the listed assets to view the asset’s Vehicle Card.

This list can be especially useful if you are looking to dispatch one asset to another and would like to dispatch the closest appropriate asset possible. To do so, use the Send Dispatch function on the Vehicle Card and enter in the asset’s Vehicle ID for “Location to Send” and the closest appropriate asset’s Vehicle ID for “Send this location to the following recipient(s)” or vice versa, depending on your need. See the instructions under Sending a Dispatch for additional information.

How to view the Nearby Assets List:

Number Description
1 Total number of assets located near the selected asset
2 Vehicle ID/Label of nearby assets

Assigned driver (if applicable) is displayed in parenthesis next to the vehicle ID/label.

3 Status and total amount of time in current status
4 Total distance of the nearby asset from the selected asset
