Installation Steps

The following steps provide an overview of the installation process:

  1. Install Preparation.
  2. Device Mounting.
  3. Harness Installation.
  4. Verify and Secure Installation.

Driveri components MUST remain together; these parts are not replaceable or interchangeable. The ONLY interchangeable part is the diagnostic bypass cable.

  1. 1. Install preparation.

Locate the camera, cleaning wipes, dry cloth, power harness, insulated crimper, dash panel removal tools, wire stripper, ring terminal, two butt connectors, and a pen.

If the outside temperature is below 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius), turn on vehicle defrost until the windshield is warm to the touch, and if applicable, all water/ice/snow has been completely removed from the windshield. The mounting bracket should also be placed in defrost airflow to warm tape.

    1. Record the 8-digit serial number (S/N) of the camera onto your paperwork.
      Camera Serial Number locations:
    2. Remove a-pillar plastic and dashboard panels for harness installation.
    3. Identify the mounting location (Do Not Mount):
      1. With Rear View Mirror: Hold the camera directly underneath the mirror and confirm the location will not affect the use of the mirror nor will windshield dot-matrix impede camera visibility.
      2. Without Rear View Mirror: Hold camera to the very top of the windshield, in the center. If the internal camera is blocked by the visor, move the camera down until it is viewable.
      3. Angled/Split Windshield: Hold camera to the top and approximately ~3 inches from the center divider of the passangers windshield. If the internal camera is blocked by the visor, move the camera down until it is viewable.
    4. Using the cleaning wipes and dry cloth, thoroughly clean the Driveri device mounting area and the dashboard where the GPS antenna will be mounted – near the windshield and a-pillar plastic.
    5. Power Harness preparation:
      1. Connect device cable to AD-1/2/3 and then connect AD-1/2/3 to 6-Pin Harness.

      2. Insert the 2A fuse into the White wire fuse holder and 5A fuse into the Red wire fuse holder.

  2. 2. Device Mounting.

The preferred location of the cellular/GPS module is on the windshield’s driver’s side in the lower corner. Please see illustration below.

Locate the camera, torpedo level, dry erase/wax tip marker, heat gun, marker, and side cutters.

The internal facing camera has a lens cover and an LED on both sides of the camera lens.

    1. Apply heat to the windshield, burning off any residue and wipe clean with a dry cloth. Remove the VHB plastic exposing the adhesive, and apply heat to the tape. If using butane, lightly heat the bracket instead of the tape.

Continuously move heat gun around to not apply heat in one area for too long. Excessive heat may cause delamination of the windshield, cracking of windshield or bubbling of tape.

    2. Ensuring the device is absolutely level, mount the device by firmly pressing the bracket to the windshield.
    3. Remove the camera from the bracket. Using a hand roller, roll out any air bubbles.
    4. DO NOT apply pressure to the camera itself; only apply pressure to the bracket to make sure all air bubbles are removed. Confirm by visually inspecting from the front of the vehicle.

Mounting brackets are one time use and should be thrown away after removal. Please contact your account manager for ordering additional mounting brackets.

  3. 3. Harness Installation.

Locate the multimeter, cordless drill, 5/16″ in. (8 mm) driver bit, wire stripper, insulated crimper, harness, six cable ties, and self-taping screw.

    1. Route the harness and antenna cable up along side the existing mirror wires, secure with cable ties, and tuck the cables into the headliner as you route them to the a-pillar.
    2. DO NOT cross over or block the a-pillar airbag as you route the harness and antenna cable down the a-pillar securing with cable ties as you go.

    3. Route the antenna cable between the windshield and a-pillar plastic. Remove the VHB plastic exposing the adhesive, and press the antenna to the dashboard. Once complete, put the a-pillar plastic back into place.
    4. Locate a suitable location on the chassis to attach the device Black/ground wire.
      1. After confirming there is nothing behind the mounting location, screw the ring terminal to the chassis.
    5. Remove the keys from the ignition and locate a vehicle wire that provides between 12 and 17 VDC (+).
      • This will be the harness Red wire power source connection.
    6. The device is not rated for more than 17 VDC (+) and draws ~3Amps when active, so you must make sure the circuit will support this current draw and you do not exceed the max device voltage threshold.

    7. Complete the following steps to poke and wrap the connection:
    8. The hardwire accessories provided for this installation include two (2) fuse taps from the manufacturer. Do NOT use these fuse taps. Instead, follow the poke-and-wrap guidelines below.

      1. Remove 1 in. (2.5 cm) of insulation from the vehicle wire identified and poke something nonconductive through the exposed wires to create a loop and insert the exposed Red wire strands into the loop.
      2. Squeeze the loop shut, and tightly wrap the bare wire around the exposed wire at least three times.
      3. Fold the wire back and generously wrap electrical tape around the connection, crossing over the insulation on both sides.
      4. Secure the connection with one cable tie directly over the wire-to-wire connection and another cable tie on a stress loop created about 1 in. (2.5 cm) away from the connection.
    9. Locate a vehicle wire which provides at least 12 VDC (+) and 17 VDC (+) while the vehicle is On and running and 0 VDC (+) when the key is in the Off and Accessory position.
      • This will be the harness White wire power source connection.
      1. Repeat Step 5: A-D to make the proper connection.
    10. Connect the power harness to the camera, screw the cover back into place, and mount device in the bracket. Do not tighten the mounting screws, as the camera may need to be adjusted in Step 4.

  4. 4. Verify and Secure Installation.

Locate the smartphone, remaining cable ties, wire cutter, and tamper seal.
