PNP-3000

Before You Begin

The installation kit contains a registration card, the PNP-3000 device, one light-duty OBD-II bypass cable with mounting bracket (optional), and zip ties.

Complete the registration card by locating the serial number of the device (labeled “ESN” or “SN”) and copying it onto the card. When the card is complete, you’re ready to start the installation.

Installation Overview

If you do not use the optional bypass cable to conceal installation, simply plug the device into the vehicle’s OBD-II port, and call for activation verification (see below).

The following steps provide an overview of the installation process using the optional bypass cable:

  1. Locate the vehicle’s OBD-II port, and ensure proper voltage.
  2. Free up existing OBD-II port.
  3. Assemble mounting bracket, and connect bypass connector into vehicle’s OBD-II port.
  4. Mount the replacement OBD-II port, and pull cable through the dash.
  5. Connect the PNP device to the end of the bypass cable.
  6. Mount and secure the device vertically high within the dash (cable on bottom side).
  7. Verify installation, and tamper-proof remaining connections.

Installation Steps >>>Without<<< the Bypass Cable

  1. 1. Locate the vehicle’s OBD-II port, and plug device into port.

    1. If bypass cables were not purchased, plug the device directly into the vehicle’s OBD-II port.

    1. Upon successful connection, observe the GPS and Cellular lights on the device. Both lights will begin to blink slowly as the device powers on and will begin to blink faster as it searches for signal. A solid amber light indicates that it has received a cellular lock, and a solid green light indicates it has acquired a GPS lock.
    2. Do not start the vehicle. To activate and register your device, with your vehicle card in hand, call 866-477-4321 option 2, or use the GPS Insight Unit Verification App via smart phone (iOS | Android).

Installation Steps >>>With<<< the Bypass Cable

  1. 1. Locate the vehicle’s OBD-II port, and ensure proper voltage.

    1. Remove the lower, side, and upper dash panels.
    2. Locate the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
    3. Using a digital multimeter, test the voltage coming from the vehicle’s OBD-II port. The port must provide 12 VDC (+) with the vehicle’s ignition in the OFF position and 13.1 VDC (+) or more in the ON position.

  2. 2. Free up existing OBD-II port.

    1. Turn off the vehicle.
    2. Free up the existing OBD-II port from its current location. This process is typically done by removing the two bolts that hold the port into place.

  3. 3. Assemble mounting bracket, and connect bypass connector into OBD-II port.

    1. Place the OBD-II mounting bracket over the OBD-II replacement port.
    2. Snap it into place.

    2. Mount the replacement OBD-II port using the original screws.
    3. Pull the bypass cable through the front of the dash.

  5. 5. Connect the PNP device to the end of the bypass cable.

    1. Connect the PNP device to the end of the bypass cable and secure with zip ties.

  6. 6. Mount the device vertically high within the dash (cable on bottom side).

    1. The internal antenna is on the end of the device and must be pointing up (cable points down). Place the device in a location inside the dash where no metal covers the device.

    2. Using zip ties, secure the device in such a way that it will not dangle, bounce, or otherwise move around. This step is especially important in order for the device to detect accurate accelerometer data.

  7. 7. Verify installation, and tamper-proof remaining connections.

    1. Do not start the vehicle.
    2. To activate and register your device, with your vehicle card in hand, call 866-477-4321 option 2 or use the GPS Insight Unit Verification App via smart phone (iOS | Android).
    3. After the installation has been verified by Technical Support, apply tamper seal compound to the connections.
