If adding to an existing installation, please contact Technical Support to ensure the feature is enabled.

The installation kit contains the installation guide, the DriverView camera, a wire harness, a ring terminal, one self-tapping ground screw, a star washer, cleaning wipes, and seven 8in. (20cm) cable ties.

Additional tools and supplies you may need include a smartphone, a razor blade or knife, a digital multimeter, a cordless drill, a Phillips bit, an insulated crimper, wire strippers, electrical tape, a pen, and a tamper seal compound.

You will need to visit the App store on your smartphone and download the GPS Insight Driver App (Android | iOS) to complete the verification process.

Installation Steps

The following steps provide an overview of the installation process:

  1. Install preparation.
  2. Device mounting.
  3. Harness installation.
  4. Verify and secure installation.

  1. 1. Install preparation.

Locate the camera box/camera, cleaning wipes, wire harness, wire stripper, insulated crimpers, ring terminal, and pen.

    1. Remove the a-pillar plastic and dash panels for harness installation.
    2. Locate the GPS Device Registration Card, and write down the camera’s 16-character serial number (S/N) above the 10-digit GPS serial number (ESN).
    3. If you are adding the camera to an existing GPS installation, you must have the registered vehicle label, VIN or GPS serial number for verification.

    4. Hold the camera directly underneath the mirror mount and confirm this location will not affect the use of the mirror, and ensure the camera lens is not looking through any windshield dot matrix.
    5. If the camera cannot be mounted in this location, contact the vehicle owner to confirm alternative mounting location.

    6. Use the cleaning wipes to clean the windshield directly below the mirror mount.
    7. Remove 1in. (2.5cm) of insulation from the harness black wire, twist the wire stands, and crimp the ring terminal to the wire.

  2. 2. Device mounting.

Locate the camera and two cable ties.

    1. Remove the plastic from the camera lens, and the paper covering the 3M VHB tape.
    2. Making sure the camera is level, firmly press the camera’s mounting surface on the cleaned windshield.

  3. 3. Harness installation.

Locate multimeter, cordless drill, phillips bit, wire stripper, insulated crimper, harness, six cable ties, star washer, and self-tapping screw.

    1. Plug the USB connector into the camera, then route the cable up the existing mirror wires and along the headliner to the a-pillar.
    2. Secure the cable to the existing mirror wires using two cable ties, and unplug the camera.
    3. Route the cable down the a-pillar and into the dash, ensuring you DO NOT cross over the airbag, and secure the wires with two cable ties.
    4. Identify a vehicle wire that provides at least 12 VDC (+) while the vehicle is on and running, and 0 VDC (+) when the key is in the Off and Accessory position. This will be the camera’s power source.
    5. Using a razor, knife, or wire strippers, remove 1in. (2.5cm) of insulation from the vehicle wires identified in Step 3 – Harness installation – Part 3, and poke something nonconductive between the exposed wires to create a loop.
      1. On the harness red wire, strip off 1 1/2in. (4cm) of insulation, and twist the wire strands before poking it through the loop created for the Ignition source.
      2. Squeeze the loop shut, and tightly wrap the bare wire around the exposed wire at least three times.
      3. Fold the wire back, and generously wrap electrical tape around the connection, crossing over the insulation on both sides.
      4. Secure the connection with one zip tie directly over the wire-to-wire connection, and another zip tie on a stress loop created about 1in. (2.5cm) away from the connection.

    6. Locate a suitable location on the chassis to mount the ground wire.
      1. First slip the star washer over the self-tapping screw, then over the ring terminal.
      2. Confirm there is nothing behind the mounting location, then screw the wire to the chassis.

  4. 4. Verify and secure installation.

Locate the smartphone, cable ties, wire cutter and tamper seal.

    1. Plug the USB connector into the camera and start the vehicle.
    2. It will take approximately 30 seconds for the device to fully turn on and for the blue LED light to illuminate on the camera.

    3. Locate your smartphone, and complete the following steps to verify the camera is properly aimed:
    4. It may take up to 2 minutes to view the camera feed on your phone.
