Question,Answer
"How does Starter Disable work?,By wiring an output to the power supply of the vehicle's starter\, we’re able to control when power is supplied to the starter. Thus\, allowing the user to disable and re-enable the starter on command from the user portal interface."
"What happens if the starter is disabled mid-trip?,Disabling the starter when the vehicle is running has no impact on the active trip\, the driver is able to complete their trip safely. Once the vehicle ends its trip and ignition is switched off it will no longer be able to be started again until the starter is re-enabled."
"Is there any limitation to how the Starter Disable command is sent/received by the device?,In order for this feature to work properly the device requires strong cellular coverage. If a command to disable\, or re-enable\, the starter is sent and the device does not have cellular signal then the command will not be received by the device and will remain in its previous state. If successful\, a confirmation message will appear in the portal application when the command is successfully delivered."
"Will all users have access to this feature in the portal?,No. By default\, the admin user is the only user with access and can assign access to other users as needed through the User Permissions page."
"Which devices support this feature?,Currently\, the GPSI-5000 is the default device to support Starter Disable. For other devices\, please contact your Account Manager."
"Does this feature require any specific wiring on the GPSI-5000 device to work?,Yes\, please see the Accessory: GPSI-5000 Starter Disable Installation Guide.
"Is Starter Disable supported on all vehicles?,Not in all scenarios\, please see the following article for more information: Starter Disable Installation Considerations
"How do I add this feature to my fleet?,Submit requests to our Support Team with a list of vehicles/devices requiring this feature. Once received\, our team will update all devices with the necessary config settings. Once updated\, the device(s) will reboot and send a specific code that tells the server it is now Starter Disable capable. Log out and back into your account\, ensure you have the Starter Disable permission granted and the toggle button will be present in the map vehicle card."
Is professional installation available?,Customers are responsible for coordinating their own installations. Please review Starter Disable Installation Considerations for installation-related items to consider.

[post_content] => Depending on the year/make/model or aftermarket up-fitting of the vehicle, some vehicles may not support Starter Disable due to the complexities of the installation. There are several aftermarket options (listed below) that may lead to issues during and after installation, if workmanship is not properly performed.
Breaking any of these wires mentioned below may introduce unexpected consequences, such as interrupting proper functionality of the brake lights or cruise control, or in some instances triggering the MIL to become illuminated, among other things. Due to all of these variables it is highly recommended that the Starter Disable is performed by OEM or Aftermarket installer who is very familiar with installing Starter Disable equipment.
Push-to-Start Vehicles
Many new vehicles with push-to-start ignitions often present a challenge as multiple start wires may be present and could be controlled through the ECU.
Limp Mode/Vehicle Interlocks
Some vehicles may be equipped with a limp mode or interlock interface, which limit the vehicles' functionality or completely impair drivability until disabled.
Start-Stop Functionality
For vehicles equipped with start-stop functionality, start-stop causes the engine to shut down when the vehicle comes to a stop. Installers must be sure to install the starter disable in such a way in which the starter functionality is truly disabled only when the vehicle is stopped in a constant state and not while in traffic or at a temporary stop (stoplight / stop sign).

[post_content] => As a portal user with the Starter Disable permission, you can disable/enable a vehicle’s starter remotely by selecting a toggle within the vehicle card of the new portal map.
Starter Disable requires special wiring during installation and is only currently supported on GPSI-5000 devices. Please see the Accessory: GPSI-5000 Starter Disable Installation Guide for installation information.
How to use Starter Disable:
- From the Portal, use the Vehicle List (left-hand panel) or the Search field to locate the vehicle for which you would like to disable the vehicle's starter.
Once selected, the vehicle's Vehicle Card appears.
- From the Vehicle Card, click the ellipses icon (
).
A drop-down menu with options appears.
- Click the toggle button next to Disable Starter.
A pop-up confirmation window appears to confirm you are sure you want to the starter on the selected vehicle accompanied by a warning regarding the required strong cellular connectivity for the GPS device.
- If you are sure, click Yes, Disable.
If you do not want to disable the starter for the vehicle, click No, Cancel.
If successful (based on GPS cellular connectivty), a pop-up window appears confirming the starter is disabled.
- Once you would like to enable the starter for the vehicle, click the ellipses icon from the Vehicle Card then use the toggle button next to Disable Starter to toggle the function off.
A pop-up confirmation window appears to confirm you are sure you would like to enable the starter for the vehicle accompanied by a note that strong cellular connectivity for the GPS device is required.
- If you are sure, click Yes, Enable.
If you do not want to enable the starter for the vehicle, click No, Cancel.
If successful (based on GPS cellular connectivty), a pop-up window appears confirming the starter is enabled.
Important Items to Consider
- You, as the end customer, assume the risk that if you need to move the vehicle in an emergency situation, you cannot if you do not have access within the [whitelabel_name] portal, and/or if the device is out of cellular coverage.
- The Starter Disable feature is optional and is designed only for vehicles with a bladed key start. Do not install the Starter Disable feature in vehicles with a push button start.
- In order to properly install the feature, installers must have real-time access to the host vehicle wire interface diagrams for starter control (i.e. ALLDATA™, WireSheet™, or equivalent), which allows installers to:
- have the means to determine which vehicle wire to interface.
- understand when the starter wire on the vehicle’s ignition switch harness is multiplexed and, therefore, must be inhibited by other means, for example within the Engine Bay, interrupting the control wire between the starter relay and the starter solenoid.
- determine the Make/Model/Year of vehicle in which the Starter Disable solution cannot be installed.
- [whitelabel_name] provides no guidance for Hybrid or Electric vehicles with regards to Starter Disable.
- Due to the wide variety of installations and vehicles, [whitelabel_name] cannot provide direct support for this feature outside of portal and basic GPSI-5000 functionality.
