Sending a Garmin Dispatch

You can dispatch Garmin-equipped vehicles to another vehicle, landmark, address, or lat/lon. If your account assigns drivers to vehicles, you can instead choose to dispatch by individual drivers or a group of drivers for Garmin-equipped vehicles. Dispatches appear on a driver’s Garmin device as a stop request alert, which starts turn-by-turn directions when invoked.

Send a Dispatch

You can send a dispatch to a Garmin from several areas of the portal: The dashboard, the Garmin Integration interface, or from 2D and 3D maps. The dispatch options vary for each area. You can also dispatch a Garmin via SMS text message.

Example
Truck 150 just broke down. Company XYZ’s Fleet Manager wants to send one of his service vehicles to the truck’s location.

To send a message from the dashboard:

  1. From the dashboard, locate the Messaging dashlets. Double-click OR drag-and-drop the Garmin dashlet onto the dashboard.

The dashlet appears on the selected dashboard.

You can display multiple Garmin dashlets on the dashboard.

  1. Click Dispatch to display dispatch options in the dashlet.
  2. From the Vehicle/Group drop-down, choose the vehicle group or individual vehicle that you want to show. In the Company XYZ example, we want to see vehicles from the “Service” group.
All vehicles with Garmin-enabled devices in the selected group are selected by default. Vehicles marked with an asterisk * are Garmin-enabled but are not active.
  1. If you chose a vehicle group, clear check boxes as needed to further isolate only the vehicle(s) that you want to include in the dispatch.
  2. From the Location area, choose how you want the dispatch to obtain the location: Vehicle, Landmark, Address, or Lat/Lon. Depending on the option chosen, choose the drop-down to pick the value. In the Company XYZ example, we choose to obtain the location of Truck 150.

If you want to find out which vehicle is closest to another vehicle, landmark, address, or lat/lon, use the Closest To dashlet or the Garmin Integration interface.

  1. In the Stop Name box, optionally enter text to be displayed to the driver next to the address.
  2. Click Dispatch Now.
